Each student must print a copy of the Observation Log before they begin their 6 hours of observation. The completed log will be due the last hour of the student’s driving time. The observation hours should occur while the student rides as a passenger with a parent.
The purpose of the log is to make students more aware of driving situations and hazards.
These observations could include but are not limited to tailgating, speeding, changing lanes without space, failure to signal, driving in blind spots, crossing solid lines, distracted drivers, California stops, running late yellow lights, failure to yield, driving too fast for conditions, changing lanes in intersections, awareness of motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians and animals.
Each observation hour should yield at least two to three comments. The observations can be repeated.
